A festival re-enacting eobang, the Joseon-era system pairing off-duty naval sailors with local fishermen to supply the Left Naval Base — Gwangalli's own origin as a fishing community.
Who it suits: Anyone at Gwangalli Beach who wants the neighborhood's actual fishing history rather than just the bridge-view photo.
What to expect
The name is a piece of local history. Eobang refers to a Joseon-era fishing arrangement tied to the Gyeongsang Left Naval Command at Suyeong, where sailors and fishermen worked together. The Jwasuyeong Eobang-nori, a folk game that turns that fishing work into play, is preserved as National Intangible Heritage. Where it is. The 2026 festival was held on Gwangalli Beach and in Suyeong Historic Park, so you can combine the beach with the old naval-command grounds. The format. Last year’s programme listed a musical, a procession of the naval commander (Gyeongsang Jwasusa), an eobang folk village, bare-handed fish catching and net-pulling activities.
